Mike Smith, candidate for Orange County School Board District 5, is a native of Orlando Florida. Mike attended Eccleston Elementary School and graduated from Jones High School. He went on to attend Bethune-Cookman University in Daytona Beach Florida where he graduated with a Degree in Business Administration. He worked for Orange County Public Schools for 27 years and left as Director of Internal Audit in June of 2010. He is Pastor of the New Providence Missionary Baptist Church for the past 11 years.

Mike is running because our young people need a representative that has their interest at heart and will take action by providing innovative solutions that address the issues affecting today's student. Orange County School Board District 5 needs a voice of reason and action that will represent their interest as well as the interest of all students of Central Florida.

Mike is asking for your vote and support because our children are precious and will be the future of our country, it is important that we provide the best opportunities for them to succeed. They must be prepared for responsibility. We are in a crisis condition, especially in disadvantaged communities, our children deserve a voice that will represent their interest and provide new out of the box thinking to address educational issues for today's student.

In addition, Mike's platform includes:

• Reassessing how students are assigned to schools
• Reducing the number of students that graduate with Certificates of Completions
• Advocate for equitable community schooling
• Oppose the closing of Richmond Heights Elementary School
• Support local Business Development
• Advocate for Jones High School to have its own Football Stadium

Mike has had a inside view of the our public school system and I need your help to fight for the interests of children in District 5 as well as the our entire community.
